India’s Supreme Court upholds decision to end special status for Kashmir

India’s Supreme Court has upheld a decision that special status for the Kashmir-Jammu region was only meant to be a temporary measure. The contested Muslim-majority region held special status since 1949 before having it revoked in 2019. The verdict also calls for elections in 2024.
